A USEFUL LITTLE TOOL

Stitch count calculator

Turn your measured gauge and finished width into a practical cast-on count.

Count over exactly 10 cm or exactly 4 inches.

Your result

Choose your values and calculate. Your inputs stay on this device.

Measure your own gauge

Use a washed, settled swatch in your intended stitch pattern. Enter stitches across 10 cm in centimetre mode, or across 4 inches in inch mode. Selecting another unit does not convert your entered measurements.

How the count is rounded

Raw count = finished width × gauge ÷ measured span. We choose the nearest whole number of pattern repeats, with at least one repeat, and add your extra stitches. The result also shows the approximate width after rounding.

A planning aid, not a garment pattern

Enter the finished fabric width, not a body measurement. Ease, shaping, different edge stitches, and pattern-specific instructions may require other calculations. Our width estimate assumes the same gauge across every stitch.
